This is a letter that was written in March of 2022 by a psychologist. It is addressed to Dr. Bonnie Henry and is regarding a vaccine mandate for private, provincially regulated healthcare workers that had been announced in February of 2022. This particular mandate turned out to be an empty threat. It is worth noting, however, that a previous mandate implemented in October of 2021 for healthcare workers in hospitals is still in effect in BC, despite critical staffing shortages throughout the province.

Re: Proposed Public Health Order                                                              March 6, 2022

Dear Dr. Bonnie Henry,

I am a registered psychologist practicing in Victoria BC, and have been practicing psychology for 38 years. I am highly concerned regarding the potential and likely outcomes of the proposed vaccine mandates for healthcare workers as announced by yourself.

It is well known that there is currently a dangerous shortage of healthcare professionals in BC, which is currently causing a critical crisis in the healthcare system.   If this mandate is enacted, a serious healthcare crisis will spiral into the catastrophic range. As well as causing further damage to the citizens of BC, this would clearly be a violation of constitutional rights and freedoms.

Currently, availability of healthcare service in BC has far exceeded the definition of a crisis. The number of BC residents who have engaged in self-harm, increased alcohol abuse, child and spousal abuse, and deaths due to drug overdose and suicide have reached unprecedented levels.

As a psychologist, all of these tragedies have been observed in my practice. I serve as many citizens as I am able, but my waiting list is many months long. Many of my clients are also unable to procure medical as well as other health care services due to shortage of practitioners. In the event that this health order is put in place, the situation will become staggeringly worse.

Like most psychologists, I have only been providing services remotely by telehealth for the past two years, making it impossible for any transmission of COVID infection to occur. Furthermore the science now clearly shows that one can be infected with and transmit the SARS-CoV-2 virus regardless of vaccination status. On a personal level, among my acquaintances, friends and clients, those  who have been double and triple vaccinated, a high proportion  are now suffering from COVID. Interestingly, those acquaintances, friends and clients who are unvaccinated are remaining healthy and COVID free. This observation is consistent with an increasing number of reports across the globe concerning the higher incidence of COVID among the vaccinated.

The clinical population I deal with is mainly composed of members of all local and   national police (RCMP) forces, as well as active and veteran members of the Canadian Armed Forces. With a  high percentage of these individuals, it has taken years to establish the necessary trust  to move through the therapeutic process. Many of these  men and women who serve our community and country are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder,  depend on me as their only source of support. Particularly during the pandemic, their clinical support needs are significantly higher, and I have made myself available to them not only on a weekly session basis, but on a 24/7 as-needs basis. If this health order is enacted, this will create  a serious public safety crisis, as these men and women will be left with no support.

As of this date, all provinces with the exception of BC and one country after another have dropped vaccination mandates. What scientific basis is BC using to support the continued  mandating of these vaccinations?

Apart from the public health crisis and danger that this proposed health order will create, and the growing scientific evidence regarding the adverse health risks and lack of efficacy of these mRNA injections, this health order would be in violation of the internationally agreed upon right of informed consent as outlined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (1982), the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights (2005), the Nuremberg Code (1947), and the Helsinki Declaration (1964). Informed consent is the foundational  principle of all healthcare, without which we have ceased to operate ethically. I am trusting that you also value the right of all people to have informed consent, and will thus not support this  harmful proposed health order.

Sincerely,

Concerned Psychologist
